An introduction to the design tool, Canva and some tips to use the tool for growing your small business.
Canva is an affordable, easy-to-use online design platform that provides thousands of templates to users.
The software was created for users who want to create beautiful, eye-catching content without having an advanced design background. It’s drag-and-drop features make it simple and quick to create unique and stunning logos, presentations, instagram posts, blog banners and more.
Pricing-wise - there is Free Canva and Canva Pro. The free option is great for beginners and young entrepreneurs looking to explore graphic design for social media. However, we recommend Canva Pro for small business owners because it provides extra features essential to cultivating a high quality brand identity.
Canva Pro costs $12.95 per month.
Using the brand kit will make your design process much smoother and more efficient. To begin, select “Brand Kit” located on the left scroll column on the home page. You have the option to upload your brand logo, choose your brand colors, and select your brand fonts. By creating your Canva brand kit, you will be able to readily access your logo, fonts, and colors any time you are designing something on the platform.
Canva provides access to millions of stock photos for you to use for your website, blog posts, and more! The Pro version grants users unlimited access to these stock photos. The platform also has thousands of icons and elements at your fingertips to enhance any graphics you create.
Under templates, you have the option to choose Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and Linkedin, to name a few. Although you can start from scratch, Canva templates help cut down your work time by at least half. Incorporating stock photos, icons, and your brand colors and fonts will help you create a holistic image that markets your brand well. Just utilize the “search” tool and you can find almost any element you want!
Don’t forget to add your logo or watermark. You can change the transparency or gradient to add it as an overlay on your image. Finally, save your stunning image as a PNG, PDF, or JPEG (PNG is preferred for social media posts) to your device! Now you’re ready to start a killer social feed that highlights your true brand identity.
Conveniently enough, Canva has a free design school in which they offer courses including “Social Media Mastery” and “Publishing Fundamentals”. Canva also has helpful functions such as a logo maker, palette generator, and font combinations. These are found at the bottom of any page on their website.
